What Is a Motor Homes & Campervans CVRT Test?

The Argent Equipment team is highly experienced in the full range of vehicle testing services, operating from our testing centre on Longmile Road in Dublin. Today, we’re here to tell you about one particular service we offer - the motor homes CVRT.

While many of the services we provide only apply to commercial vehicles, this one applies to all types of motor and caravan, whether they’re used for commercial purposes or not. This test is required, rather than the standard National Car Test.

Light Commercial CVRT or Heavy Commercial CVRT?

The exact type of motor homes test you’ll need will be determined by the weight of your vehicle, with those weighing less than 3,500 kg requiring a Light Commercial CVRT. Should your motorhome or caravan exceed this weight, you’ll need a Heavy Commercial CVRT instead.

During the test, all visible and accessible parts of the vehicle will be assessed, with a successful pass resulting in the issuance of your Certificate of Roadworthiness (CRW). When the vehicle in question does pass the motor homes test, a failure report is issued instead, with the vehicle needing to be re-booked in, following the required repairs.

The cost of a motorhome CVRT will depend on how many axles it has:

  • Motor caravans with two axles : Test fee €76.86

  • Motor caravans with three or more axles : Test fee  €94.58

Just remember that when presenting your motorhome for testing, you’ll need to have a valid photo ID to present. It won’t stop the test from being carried out, but it will stop you from getting your CRW, until it’s presented.
