Preparing Your Van or Fleet for Your Annual CVRT

At Argent Equipment, we're Dublin's number one choice for commercial vehicle testing for the full range of vans and HGVs. As the owner of a commercial van or lorry, Irish law dictates that you have an obligation to get your vehicle tested annually at a registered testing centre.

Today we're here to tell you about the things you should be doing before you have HCV, van or fleet testing carried out at our registered CVRT workshops. Doing so will give you the best possible chance of passing the inspection the first time and avoiding wasting time.

Before your CVRT, you should…

  • Give the Inside & Out a Clean. A stipulation of your CVRT is that it's kept clean inside and out - so it's important to give your vehicle/s a good clean inside and out. Not only will this make your van or fleet testing easier, but it ensures you won't get turned away, costing you both money and time.

  • Check Your Windscreen/Mirrors for Cracks. A common way to fail your CVRT is because of cracked windows and/or mirrors, so be sure to check those on your vehicle at the same time as you're cleaning it. That way, you can get them fixed or replaced before your inspection.

  • Check Your Fluid Levels. Fluid levels should be checked every day, so they’re certainly something that needs to be checked prior to van or HCV testing. This is perhaps most pertinent to fleet vehicles that are regularly driven by multiple drivers.

  • Check Your Suspension & Brakes. A crucial part of your CVRT involves the condition of your brakes and suspension. Especially when you're carrying heavy loads, both need to be in good condition, so be sure to give them a look.

  • Check Your Lights Front & Back. Another quick check you should be making is for your lights to ensure they all work properly. It's an easy aspect to miss and represents an automatic CVRT fail, causing hassle and extra time being wasted.

  • Check Your Tyres. Again, tyre checks form part of your standard daily walkarounds, so their condition should be continually evaluated. However, if the vehicle in question is used by many drivers, you should check the tyres before it's presented for inspection.
