ADR Testing For Hazardous Goods Vehicles- What's Involved?

Hello and welcome to the latest Argent Equipment blog in which we talk about matters relating to commercial vehicle testing. Today, we're here to look at one service we offer in particular - the Hazardous Goods Vehicle test a.k.a. ADR testing.

As the name of the test alludes to, vehicles that transport dangerous goods such as acid, diesel, oil or petrol, are required to meet certain technical requirements. As such, they're required to take an ADR test that's designed to minimise the danger for other road users.

So, What's Involved With ADR Testing?

ADR stands for Accord Dangereux Routier, and the process begins with you choosing your preferred testing centre, which for Dubliners will usually be Argent Equipment. You'll need to call or book your test on our website, choose a suitable time that's available and be sure to choose the correct ADR & vehicle category.

Once availability is confirmed, you'll be required to pay an admin fee of €91.50, which it’s important to note is NOT your ADR test fee. The test fee itself is €93.01, and it needs to be paid directly to the garage or testing centre you've booked with.

Important Things to Remember About Your ADR CVRT

Prior to applying for your test, it’s important to speak to a Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) to ensure that your ADR examination is completed correctly e.g. special provisions code and tank code. Depending on the vehicle type it may be necessary to present with covers taken off in order for things like the batter mater switch markings can be viewed.

Other things to note include:

  • You shouldn't apply for a test less than 10 days before the inspection

  • Should you be unable to attend your test, let the centre know ASAP

  • If successful, your ADR test certificate will be automatically issued by the RSA

In order to be able to submit your vehicle for its ADR test, you'll have to have passed your CVRT within 40 days of your confirmed testing date. As such, it is possible to apply for both at the same time if you prefer. It’s also important that the person presenting the vehicle on the day of the test brings a valid passport, public services card or driving licence.
