5 Useful Facts You Should Know About Vehicle Tests

At Argent Equipment, we're known across Dublin for being the go-to company for your HCV CVRT, bus testing, ambulance CVRT and more. As such, when we're not delivering reliable testing services, we're creating blogs like this one to help educate the public about what we do.

This time around, we’re here to bring you some super useful facts that you need to know about CVRT testing in Ireland. So, if you’ve got a pen and paper ready, let’s dive into the good stuff!

Fact #1 - Dangerously defective vehicles get a visible 'FAIL DANGEROUS' sticker.

In the event of a vehicle or trailer being identified as dangerously defective during testing, it will have a visible sticker on it to publicly show that it shouldn't be driven. The test centre is also able to detain, remove or immobilise the vehicle to prevent use.

Fact #2 - CVRTs Must Be Taken Annually

Whether talking about HCV CVRT or LCV CVRT, it’s a test that must be carried out on an annual basis. This is a legal obligation throughout the EU and still applies to vehicles kept off the road.

Fact #3 - Tests Can Be Refused

If, during a vehicle test, the tester feels that any part of it may be unsafe to test OR the vehicle is not sufficiently secured or in a bad condition. If a refusal occurs, the RSA is automatically informed, and your test fees are refunded.

Fact #4 - Tests Must Be Carried Out at Authorised Centres

If you want your commercial vehicle to be tested, you need to ensure that you book it in at a registered and authorised testing centre, such as the Argent workshops in Dublin.

Fact #5 - Voluntary Tests Are Available

It’s also possible to have a voluntary test at any CVR testing, which is just like a standard roadworthiness test, but you don’t get a Certificate of Roadworthiness (CRW) afterwards.
