What's an ADR CVRT? Everything You Need to Know

We offer a wide range of commercial vehicle testing services from our workshops in Dublin, and today, we're here to examine one in particular - ADR CVRT. ADR stands for Accord Dangereux Routier (ADR), which applies to any vehicle that transports dangerous goods like diesel, oil, petrol, chemicals or acid.

The rules governing the transportation of hazardous materials come from the 1957 UN treaty, with the name being derived from the treaty's French name: Accord européen relatif au transport international des merchandises Dangereuses par Route.

Where Do You Apply for an ADR CVRT?

As we mentioned a moment ago, you can get an ADR CVRT from the Argent Equipment team in Dublin. That said, more than 30 test centres across Ireland offer ADR testing. You can apply for an ADR test via the RSA's website or by visiting us online.

It involves choosing an available day for your test and then making a preliminary booking, after which we, or your chosen centre, will send you a confirmation. At the point of writing, you'll pay a €91.50 admin fee to the RSA and €93.01 for the test (paid to the garage on the day).

How to Prepare for Your ADR Test

For your test to go as smoothly as possible, you should do a little prep before submitting the vehicle. First, you should consult with your Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) to make sure your ADR exam is properly completed, e.g. special provisions code, and tank code.

Depending on the vehicle, you may need to remove covers so that your battery master switch and other markings can be more easily seen. Also, a CVRT must be successfully completed within 40 days of your confirmed ADR test. It's also important to remember that separate applications need to be made for each vehicle that needs to be checked, such as a semi-trailer, trailer and vehicle.

Lastly, you should know that your ADR test must be applied for no less than 10 working days before the inspection is needed, and you should bring a valid passport, driving licence or public services card to the test centre.
