What You Need to Know About ADR Testing
At Argent Equipment, we create regular articles like this one to educate our readers about important matters from Ireland's commercial vehicle testing industry. Today, we're here to shed some light on one particular area of our work - ADR testing - something that focuses on ensuring that hazardous goods vehicles are safe and properly maintained.
Standing for Accord Dangereux Routier, a valid ADR test certificate is necessary for any vehicle that transports dangerous chemicals like acid, diesel, oil, or petrol. The technical requirements that make up the ADR testing help to minimise the dangers on Ireland's roads.
What You Should Know Before Applying For an ADR Test
There are certain aspects you should be aware of before applying for ADR testing, which is why it's wise to consult with a Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) so that you can be sure everything goes smoothly. Those aspects include:
Some vehicles need to be presented with covers removed so markings can be seen.
A CVR test must have been passed within 40 days of the confirmed ADR test appointment.
Your ADR test must be applied for no less than 10 days before an inspection is needed.
Separate applications need to be made for each motor vehicle, trailer, or semi-trailer that needs ADR certification.
If you don't show up for a scheduled appointment or have to cancel close to the test date, you may lose your test fees.
A valid passport, public services card or driving licence must be provided by the person presenting the vehicle for testing.
Upon your vehicle passing its ADR test, the certificate will be automatically issued to the vehicle operator by the RSA.
It's also important to note when booking your ADR test that you'll need to pay an admin fee of €91.50 to the RSA online by Mastercard or VISA. This is separate from the test fee, which is paid to the testing centre on the day of the examination.
