Vehicle Modification Engineers Reports & Why They’re Needed

When any kind of changes are made to a vehicle’s original design, as it was when it left the manufacturer, this is considered as a modification. There are no laws preventing you from making these modifications, however, the work must be carried out to a sufficiently safe standard - which is why vehicle modifications reports are needed.

Vehicles become modified for a whole host of reasons - some even being altered before they’re officially registered. For example, an owner may want to convert their 4WD passenger car to a commercial vehicle, simply by taking out the safety belts and the back seats. Even though this is a relatively minor change, it still requires vehicle modification engineers reports to be created.

Other Qualifying Modifications

Anything that changes the vehicle or it’s purpose from what’s shown on the logbook will require this type of report to be produced, with more serious modifications that affect handling, braking or suspension also being included. All work carried out needs to be verified as being to an adequate standard and compliance with the law.

Also included are cosmetic modifications that cause the vehicle in question to differ from other like-for-like makes and models. Common examples of this type include side trim, rear spoilers, tinted windows and adapted exhausts.
