Tachograph Supply & Fit for Trucks in Dublin

A tachograph is a mandatory device that's fitted to certain types of commercial vehicles and trucks in Ireland. Automatically recording vehicle distances and speeds, as well as driving and resting times, there are both digital and analogue devices available.

Storing data in mass memory inside each unit on driver cards that are unique to each driver, their use and issue are overseen by the Road Safety Authority (RSA). As such, the records that they create must be made available for inspection at any time to ensure driver-hour rules are being followed.

Hefty Fines & Prosecution Are the Alternative

Failure to abide by the RSA’s requirements may result in prosecution, although some vehicle classes are exempt (e.g. vehicles whose gross vehicle weight does not exceed 3.5 tonnes). The EU and Irish rules that pertain to tachograph installation include:

  • Statutory Instrument 229 of 2017

  • Regulation (EU) No 165/2014

While analogue tachographs still exist in some older vehicles, digital tachographs became mandatory in the EU as of May 2006. That's why you’ll only find the digital kind in all new buses and trucks manufactured after this date.
