Keeping Your Van or Jeep Road-Safe With a CVRT in Dublin

If you’re the owner of a jeep or a van in Ireland, then you’ll need to have a CVRT or Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness Test on an annual basis to ensure that it’s safe for use on the road. Regardless of whether you’re using it for business or for personal reasons, both vans and jeeps fall into the LCV category and as such, need a different test to the standard National Car Test (NCT).

Van and jeep testing is necessary on all vehicles over one year old and once carried out, it confirms the fact that the vehicle in question meets the standard basic safety requirements on the day the test is conducted. Taking into account all visible and accessible components, it’s designed to check that the jeep or van being assessed has been well maintained.

So, What’s Involved?

When your van or jeep testing is due, it’s necessary to book your vehicle in on a day of your choosing and you’ll need to bring along a valid form of ID. It doesn’t need to be the vehicle owner’s ID that needs to be presented, rather the ID of the person presenting the vehicle for testing.

Should you forget to bring ID along to your Light Commercial Vehicle CVRT, the test can still be carried out, however, if the test is successful, you will need to return with your ID in order for the Certificate of Roadworthiness (CRW) to be issued.

In the event that your van or jeep testing results in a fail, you’ll need to book it in for retest as soon as you’ve dealt with the failing items. Retests must be carried out within 4,000 kms or 21 calendar days, otherwise a full test will need to be repeated.
