Explaining Commercial Vehicle Services, Reports & Tests

Hello and welcome to the Argent Equipment blog where we bring you tips and advice about the services we provide. We’ve been providing high quality testing services to Irish businesses for over 23 years now, so we’re well placed to take care of all of your needs.

Here we look at Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) Testing, which exists to ensure that LCVs with a gross weight in excess of 3,500 kg are safe for road use. Within this group of vehicles, you’ll typically find commercial jeeps and light vans which have their own specific roadworthiness test.

Testing Is Required Every Year

Businesses owning LCVs are required to engage in testing on an annual basis, with a pass required in all cases. When a vehicle fails to meet the required standards, the necessary repairs must be carried out, with re-testing then being conducted.

Every commercial vehicle of a certain size is subject to LCV CVRT testing, including buses that carry more than eight passengers and ambulances. The only exception to this rule are vehicles under one year old, with a pass demonstrating that said vehicle meets basic standards of safety on the day of the test.

Other Things You Should Know

LCV testing usually takes from half an hour to an hour, with visible components and accessible areas being evaluated. It’s crucial that anyone presenting a vehicle for testing brings along their driving licence, public services card or passport for ID too, as it would otherwise prevent it from taking place.

Once passed, a Certificate of Road Worthiness (CRW) will be issued as proof that the required standards have been met. That said, it does not constitute any kind of warranty as to its overall condition.
