CVRT Operator & Driver Obligations Explained
Hello and welcome to the latest blog from Argent Equipment, in which we attempt to clarify matters around Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness Tests (CVRTs). From our two workshops in Dublin, we offer a wide range of vehicle testing services, from ambulance testing right the way through to van and jeep testing.
In this article, we look at the obligations involved in a CVRT both from the perspective of a Heavy Commercial Vehicle (HCV) operator or owner.
Obligations of the HCV Operator/Owner
The primary responsibility of an HCV operator is to keep your vehicle in a roadworthy condition. They must do this by implementing the following measures as part of an over-arching maintenance system. This will typically include:
Daily walk-around checks
Pre-planned preventative maintenance checks
The introduction of record keeping, detailing reg number, year of manufacturer, leasing arrangement if applicable, the vehicle’s last CVRT, which defects were discovered, when they were rectified and by whom, and service invoices and parts.
HCV operators/owners are also required under law to complete and submit a declaration each year online to the Road Safety Authority (RSA). So, if you’re an HCV operator, this is something that will need to be carried out on every vehicle in your fleet on an annual basis.
