Answering Your FAQs about CVRT Testing

We get asked lots of questions by the customers who use our commercial vehicle testing services on a regular basis. So much so that we thought it would be a good idea to write a blog about them so that everyone can get the insight required to get the most out of what we offer.

So, in this article, we'll be giving you answers to some of the most frequent questions we get asked while we're delivering the best commercial vehicle CVRT testing in Dublin.

Q: What needs to be brought to the centre on CVRT test day?

A: A photo ID, which can be either a passport or a photo driving licence. Also, bring seat belt certificates or modification reports if you have them.

Q: Do I need to clean my vehicle for the test?

A: Ideally, yes. The underbody of your vehicle needs to be reasonably clean, with its hub caps taken off before submitting it for testing.

Q: What is the cost associated with a CVRT?

A: The price of your CVRT will vary, depending on the vehicle. As such, you should check out our price list page for more details.

Q: What happens if I pass my HCV test the first time?

A: You get issued a pass statement at our test centre. However, your certificate of roadworthiness (CRW) will be posted to you within 3-5 working days. It is possible to tax a commercial vehicle in Ireland with a pass statement.

Q: What happens if I fail my HCV CVRT?

A: If you fail your CVRT, you'll be required to take a re-test within 21 days. That said, the only reason you'd have to pay again though is if the failure relates to emissions, headlight alignment, suspension or brakes and equipment retests are required. It will be printed on your failure report if this is the case.

Q: What if I fail my retest? What Happens then?

A: You won't get another 21 days for the work to be done. This time, you'll need to book and pay for full CVRT testing again.

Q: My CVRT expired before testing - do I still get a full 12 months certification?

A: Sadly no. You will get 12 months from the date of expiry, not from the test date.
