So, What’s Involved in a Truck & Trailer CVRT?
At Argent Equipment, we offer the full spectrum of testing services for all types of truck and other commercial vehicles. From our Dublin-based test centres, we are able to get you the certification you need in as little as an hour in some cases.
If you’re a driver of a commercial truck on Ireland’s roads and you have a trailer attached to it, you’ll need to pass a specialist type of roadworthiness test or CVRT each year. Aptly named as a Truck & Trailer CVRT, it’s a test that is specifically designed to ensure that vehicles of this type are safe to be driven commercially.
So, What Does a Truck & Trailer Test Involve?
Ok, so the Truck & Trailer CVRT relates to heavy commercial vehicles i.e. HGVs and LGVs over 3,500kg GVW and goods trailers over 3,500kg. What the test aims to establish is whether the vehicle in question is safe to be driven on the roads and it does so by assessing visible and accessible areas against some basic safety standards to include:
Brakes
Lights and markings
Wheels and tyres
Steering and suspension
Chassis and underbody
Tachograph
Speed limiter
Exhaust emissions
Electrical systems
Glass and mirrors
Depending on how your Truck & Trailer CVRT went, you’ll either get a pass statement, which equates to your CRW and that’s sent to the registered address of the owner. If you’re unlucky enough to fail, you’ll get a test report that details what it failed on and in this event, you have 21 days to retest and re-present during which time you must not travel more than 4,000 Km.
