Reasons Why a HCV Testing Centre Might Refuse a Vehicle

At Argent Equipment, we're known across Dublin for offering the very best in HCV testing - a necessary part of owning and operating a commercial vehicle in Ireland. This is the latest in our ongoing series of blogs that serve to educate our customers about the finer details of the commercial vehicle testing services we offer.

Today, we look at an important subject, one that can save you time and ensure your operation is not disrupted. In this instance, we're talking about the reasons why an HCV testing centre may refuse to test your vehicle. Naturally, it's something you want to avoid.

Reason #1 - Your Vehicle Is Not Safe

The first reason why your HCV CVRT might not go ahead relates to the safety of your vehicle. If, in the opinion of the testing professional, any part of the vehicle (including its equipment) is in such a condition that makes it unsafe or unpracticable to carry out the test. To do so would put the tester in danger, so it's easy to see why this rule exists.

Reason #2 - Your Vehicle's Load is Not Properly Secured

The next reason concerns any load you might be carrying on test day. As such, if that load is deemed not to be secured properly and would again make carrying out the test unsafe, the testing operator can call a halt to proceedings.

Reason #3 - Certain Areas Cannot Be Inspected

An HCV test in Ireland involves inspecting various visible vehicle elements, such as tyres, brakes, and lights. However, if the vehicle is presented in a condition that the tester deems that inspecting certain necessary items is unsafe, the test should be abandoned.
